Today, the Digital Agency of Japan officially launched the “My Number Card on iPhone” service, effective June 24, 2025. With Apple Wallet support, government services can now be accessed with just an iPhone.

Key Features and How to Use

1. Registration Process

Update the “Myna Portal” app to the latest version, then:

  • Open the app and tap “Start Adding”
  • Authenticate with Face ID / Touch ID
  • Scan your physical My Number Card using NFC
  • Enter your PIN and signature password to complete registration

2. Usage Scenarios

  • Myna Portal Login: Smooth access to government procedures like address changes and pension record checks
  • Convenience Store Certificates: Present certificates of residence and seal registration from Wallet
  • Identity/Age Verification: Use for rentals, alcohol purchases, and other ID checks

3. Security Measures

  • Access protected by Face ID / Touch ID
  • Information encrypted on iPhone — not accessible externally or by Apple
  • If lost, temporarily suspend via “Find My” app or My Number helpline

Future Plans

  • iOS In-Person Verification App: Launching mid-July for wider identity verification at stores and facilities
  • Health Insurance Card Integration: Pilot experiments starting July, with operations at select medical institutions from September
